Sunday 3 November 2024 at the Teatro Sociale di Trento there will be a new appointment with the performances of "Scappo a teatro-Famiglie", the children's theatre programme created by the Centro Servizi Culturali S. Chiara di Trento, in collaboration with the Coordinamento Teatrale Trentino, which on Sunday 3 November (4 pm) will bring the Teatro Crest company to the stage of the Teatro Sociale di Trento with "La storia di Hansel e Gretel"; a work born from the text by Katia Scarimbolo.

In the German region of Spessart there is still a dense forest, difficult to cross with its few and harsh paths, made even more difficult by gigantic and shady pines and beeches, whose branches stand in the way. For the farmers of the area it is "the witch's wood", because of a ruin with its four ovens and the story of a beautiful woman who, with her magical sweets, captured those who, getting lost in the woods, arrived near her house.

This seems to be the origin of Hansel and Gretel's fairy tale, a "shady" tale like the woods, made even more disturbing by the presence of a woman who appears to the two little brothers beautiful, welcoming and maternal, but a witch who deceives and eats children. In the spectacle, as in the fairy tale, his presence sheds a changing light on every step of history: the daily deception of the image hides opposite or simply more complicated truths. The house, the forest, the path illuminated by the magical pebbles, the shining feathers of the swan, everything turns and transforms, and then returns with a new light, like the sun every morning.

What's good? What's bad? Is this true or does it appear to be? What you want is not real. Maybe what you want hurts. Don't be fooled. Don't be enchanted.

In times of economic recession, telling the children of the consumer society a fairy tale that starts from the prastic difficulty of a father and a mother to feed their children may not be an exercise in style. After all, fairy tales never are. What anxiety of abandonment, fear of not seeing their needs met, what ghosts take shape in children who feel their greed for well-being threatened? A show suspended between reality and fairytale, so that children learn to give value to things and above all to their ability to discern and conquer them, to overcome passive dependence, that of parents and that... of abundance.
