The "Contemporary Regional Season" continues in Trento, the programme created in collaboration between the Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara di Trento and the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano. On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March 2024, the stage of the Teatro SanbàPolis will host "Family", the latest modern musical by Gipo Gurrado. An Elsinor-Centro production of Theatre Production, with the contribution of NEXT-Laboratorio delle Idee.
At the heart of the latest modern musical by Gipo Gurrado is a family, a "family" like many others. The lean and essential plot revolves around a group of people who live, change and age on the thread of a unique and inexorable bond. So far nothing new, if it were not for an unprecedented and unexpected viewing angle, welcoming and soft, which offers the opportunity to have, at least for once, a free, candid and disenchanted look at the family and its members.
The drama of the show develops into a series of songs, some choral and written to involve more characters, others conceived as real sung monologues. The scenes are constructed through choreographic moments, conceived in collaboration with Maja Delak.
While bringing the show back into the "musical" vein, the quality of the interpretation of the songs is very far from the aesthetics and mode of execution that the collective imagination connects to this genre.
In the shows he wrote and directed, Gipo Gurrado expresses a personal research within a musical theater that takes its cue from both the prose theater and the language of the musical, avoiding the cloning of imported products to go in a new direction: music and songs become the main scenic element and recover the best of the songwriting tradition (from Gaber to Jannacci and Dalla) by choosing themes far from the "classic" dramaturgy of the musical and drawing on events, characters and situations capable of opening a look at the condition of man in modern times
