From 25 April to 8 September 2025 at the Tridentine Diocesan Museum in Trento.

Twentyyears after his death, the exhibition celebrates the cultural legacy of Flavio Faganello, highlighting the different aspects of an authorial vision intimately connected to the practice of walking.

A choice of over a hundred photographs provides a method and a look that anticipates contemporary themes and sensibilities, inviting enthusiasts of walking, travelling and slow tourism to (re)discover paths and social contexts of a world where history was knocking at the door.
Virtually recomposing its extraordinary archive, now divided between the family and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, the selection documents the epochal environmental and anthropological transformations of the regional territory in the era of economic boom and tourist expansion.
Icastic images evoke the tight knot between the forms of the landscape and the life of rural mountain societies, their cultural heritage, the expressions of spirituality. Along the ancient paths, with their unmistakable morphology of crosses, fences, votive aedicules, dry stone artifacts, Faganello captures the toils of work, the forms of sociality, the peculiar relationship between people and sacred spaces, capturing the rites, traditions, faith and hope of pilgrims. In his continuous returns, in the same places and among the same people, the photographer distills, with characteristic irony, the paradoxes and schizophrenias of the times, also confronting the tourist invasion and environmental risk.
The project also extends to the relationship between Faganello and the then Mountain and Exploration Festival "Città di Trento", at the centre of a dedicated scenography that will be set up in the setting of Piazza Duomo on the occasion of the 73rd edition of the Trento Film Festival.
Enriched by a series of meetings, guided tours and events, the proposal brings together the past and the possible futures of a community that, in Faganello's tireless visual research, continues to deeply recognise itself.
