At Trento's Teatro Sociale, located in our historic centre, "La Boheme" will be staged on 21 and 22 February 2024.
The four bohemians Rodolfo, Marcello, Schaunard and Colline live every day, without a penny, constantly looking for new things. Their existence, mostly empty and meaningless, flows between superficiality and the search for expression in the context of an artistic environment.
Dedicated only to distractions and fun, they put no effort into anything they do. Marcello lives a casual relationship with Musetta in the name of jealousy and flirtatiousy, while Rodolfo falls unexpectedly in love with the beautiful neighbor Mimì, whose fate is marked by a terminal illness.
The carefree lives of the four young men take a tragic turn. Director Matthias Lošek brings his "Requiem for Mimì" to the stage in a semi-scenic form, far from more conventional productions, revealing in a blatant way the timelessness of this melodrama, which is opposed, by contrast, by the intensity of the music.
An intense music with strong sounds that reproduces in a realistic and meticulous way both the world of the bohemians and the environment that surrounds them as well as the inner life of the characters. The premiere of Giacomo Puccini's La bohème was staged in Turin in 1896. Together with Tosca and Madama Butterfly, it is one of the best known works of the Italian composer, whose centenary of death falls in 2024.
