We are getting to know each other. Through algorithms and big data, the understanding of our behaviors, our choices and our tastes has never been so deep. In what has already been called the Century of Solitude, we feel seen, and understood. First a function of art, then a function of therapy, today knowledge has become a matter of having enough data. But when we've gotten to know each other completely, will we still feel free? Will we still fall in love? Will we still be able to write a poem?
‘Big numbers’ is a collective experiment: a micro-community, called the public, made up of small numbers, finds itself in front of a live event. This fact, at a time when all our attention is focused on screens, is a momentous event. If the show can always be similar to itself, we are practically certain that these exact people, together, will never meet again. So, who are we? What's our name, where do we come from, how old are we? And again: what songs do we like, what generation do we feel we are part of? Do we belong to majorities or minorities? Do we like it or does it bother us to feel similar to others? ‘Big numbers’ brings together stand-up comedy, slam poetry and the relationship with the public through surveys to rediscover outside the flow of data and algorithms what it means to meet live among strangers, to have a collective experience that leads us to feel at the same time part of a group, and unique.
