On Thursday, October 26, 2023, the series of meetings "North, South, West, East. Coordinates of a reflection between museums and history" proposed by the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino. The first meeting will be devoted to a reflection on museums of the Risorgimento and new narratives.

Between the fall of 2023 and the spring of 2024, 5 seminars will be proposed, organized as part of the initiatives for the 100th anniversary of the Historical Museum of Trento: 5 moments of reflection in which the vicissitudes of the Museum, its research interests and its heritage will be intertwined with the history of Trentino and its multifaceted identities.

A territory thus seen in the Italian national context structured from the experience of the Risorgimento, in its urban dimension (represented by the city of Trent), in its location within the Alpine space, in its participation in the events of the historical Tyrol, and in its relations with Mitteleuropa.

Each meeting will be introduced by a lectio that will provide the most theoretical and historiographical elements, from which the subsequent discussion will develop, involving various local, national and international museums and cultural institutions.

The first event, The Museums of the Risorgimento and New Narratives, will open with a keynote address by Arianna Arisi Rota, professor of contemporary history at the University of Pavia, and will propose a reflection on the most up-to-date narratives around the Risorgimento theme, with a focus on the material dimension related to objects.

This will be followed by a panel discussion involving Lia Corna, museum curator at the Museo delle storie in Bergamo, Filippo Focardi, professor of contemporary history at the University of Padua and scientific director of the Ferruccio Parri National Institute in Milan, and Marco Pizzo director of the archives of the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento in Rome. With these guests, the theme will be declined from a more strictly museum perspective, to understand how to make the new narratives usable and how that specific heritage can speak to today's society. The October 26 meeting will be coordinated by Mirko Saltori and Michele Toss of the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation.
