On Friday, February 2, 2024, the Library of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino hosts the presentation of Eros Francescangeli's book "A better world than this: the revolutionary left in Italy (1943-1978)", published by Viella in 2023.
The initiative is promoted by the Associazione Museo storico in Trento, in collaboration with the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino.
The author Eros Francescangeli, one of the founders of the magazine of history of social conflict "Zapruder", in this last book carries out a complex work of historical reconstruction, analyzing the various phases of the difficult attempt to build an alternative to the left of PCI and PSI between the 1940s and 1970s.
Anarchism and "historical" anti-Stalinist dissidents have given rise to significant organisational experiences that, in contact with social and anti-colonial struggles, have been able to intercept the generational and political tensions that emerged in the 1950s and 1960s. Already before 1968, new structures with an anti-authoritarian, workerist, Marxist-Leninist, and/or anti-imperialist matrix were born, which reached their apogee in the first half of the following decade and then quickly entered into crisis, narrowed between the phenomenon of armed struggle, political disengagement and the emergence of other needs and antagonisms.
