S.L.O.I. MACHINE, staged at the Teatro Cuminetti on Friday 20 October 2023, tells us, through the memories of grandfather Olmo,
the true story of SLOI, the "poison factory" of Trento, which between the 1930s and 1970s produced the very dangerous tetraethyl lead.
After a first period of euphoria and praised virtues, this chemical compound turns out to be harmful, causing the death of many of its workers and undermining the health of all the others, leading them to impotence, abulia, anorexia. The pollution of the air and aquifers, probably irreversible, transforms a dreamy rural area into a black nightmare of unhealthy muds and swamps, poisonous fumes that enter the food chain passing through the milk and meat produced nearby. A catastrophe announced several times that could cause the real destruction of the entire province of Trento and the surrounding areas, foiled fortuitously and adventurously at the last minute.
