The Teatro Musica Novecento company will be the protagonist for two days with a great classic of the last century signed by Franz Léhar
The Operetta proposed by the Santa Chiara Cultural Services Centre is back. Two days, Wednesday 3 and Friday 5 January 2024, which will feature the Teatro Musica Novecento company with a great classic of the last century: The Merry Widow by Victor Léon and Léon Stein to the music of Fran Léhar.
The ‘premiere’ of The Merry Widow took place in Vienna in 1905 and brought Franz Léhar to world fame. It is a title that has gone through a whole century of profound changes, and whose success has never been tarnished and is renewed in the third millennium. Suffice it to say that thisoperetta is still one of the most represented titles in theatrical seasons around the world. Undoubtedly the first and most important title in the history of operetta.
The Compagnia Teatro Musica Novecento presents a new 2020 staging, signed as sets and costumes by Artemio Cabassi, a name known throughout Europe that collaborates with the major opera houses (Teatro Regio di Parma, Sferisterio di Macerata, Politeama di Lecce, Gran Colon di Barcelona). The direction is instead signed by Alessandro Brachetti (who also plays the cable-car player Niegus), who with the usual grace and respect for the libretto, adds a note of freshness and chorus to this masterpiece. Last but not least, the live orchestra conducted by Maestro Stefano Giaroli, to complete this unmissable event in the name of a smile and good music.
The Merry Widow is set in Paris, at the beginning of the twentieth century. The birthday party of the beloved Sovereign is taking place at the Embassy of Pontevedro. However, the focus is on the arrival of the young, beautiful and wealthy widow of the banker of the Court, Hanna Glavari, whose charm, combined with the immense legacy, has bewitched many noble Parisian lords. For reasons of state, a husband must be procured for the wealthy heiress, and the fact that the candidate for this task is Danilo, a man of life, certainly does not simplify the plan of the Pontevedrian diplomats.
