On Friday, May 10, 2024, at the MUSE - Science Museum of Trento, the conference "The Message of Venus - The Memory of an archaeological find and its meaning in contemporary times" will be held.
Inspired by the precious archaeological find found at the Gaban Shelter in Martignano di Trento that represents a figure of Venus with accentuated feminine features, called "the Venus of Gaban", the Falenablu Committee promotes a collection of research and memories and a site-specific cultural event that unites several territorial agencies. For six years the project has been renewed every year with different variations and thisyear it becomes an amplification container to build memory and for the relaunch and dissemination of an archaeological find that remains little known and little evaluated. The Venus del Gaban is an internationally known archaeological find representing a Mother Goddess, kept at the Muse and studied by illustrious names in international archaeology starting with Marija Gimbutas who had included it in her book "The Language of the Goddess". The small Venus on a bone plate combines figurative elements typical of Neolithic cultures (the vulva located in the center of the figure with the representation of the tree-shaped motif and the diagram of the hanger arms), with purely Mesolithic characters (use of bone as support, lack of feet) and is internationally recognized as a symbol to define the phenomenon of acculturation of Mesolithic populations. For the symbolic characteristics it bears witness to a 7,000-year-old culture lived in our territory that gave great importance to the female role and fertility, enhancing the female vision of the world and the harmony of natural cycles.
