As part of the Medieval Scientific Library (BiblioSme) project funded by the Fondazione Caritro, which has led to the study and in-depth analysis of the manuscripts of Trentino libraries containing works of medieval science, the Municipal Library of Trento, in collaboration with the University of Trento, is organising an exhibition entitled "Le scienze nel medioevo" (Fresco Room, 26 May - 12 June 2025).
The event is an opportunity to admire some of the precious medieval manuscript codes, dated between the end of the 11th and 15th centuries, owned by the Municipal Library of Trento and usually kept in storage. Two examples of the famous Somnium Scipionis excerpt from Cicero's De re publica, a philosophical and political work, a code containing Aristotle's Metaphysics and some fundamental texts on medicine, will be exhibited, among others.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition on Monday, May 26, 2025 in the Hall of Frescoes at 5:00 p.m., the conference entitled "Sciences in the Middle Ages" will be held, in which:
- Alessandro Palazzo (UniTn) "Presentation of the BiblioSMe project"
- Luca Morlino (UniTn) "Antidotes, forecasts and secrets. The wonders of science in the medieval manuscripts of the Trento Municipal Library ".
The following is the screening of the podcast "Women's Medicine – Il De secretis mulierum (Trento, Municipal Library, Ms. 1586)" created by two student trainees from the Department of Letters and Philosophy of UniTn).
The exhibition, which is part of a series of events organised in collaboration with the University of Trento, can be visited freely from 26 May to 12 June, from Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
