A cycle of eight meetings, from 2 October to 27 November 2025
The Tridentine Diocesan Museum offers a series of eight meetings dedicated to wooden sculpture, to rediscover one of the richest and most fascinating chapters in the history of regional art.
Between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, the bishopric of Trento was crossed by carvers from different areas and traditions. Their works reflect an astonishing variety of languages and styles: from the Renaissance ancones of Po Valley inspiration to the majestic Flügelaltäre ("altars with wings") brought by Nordic culture, to the grandiose baroque machines, sparkling with gold and populated with statues and angels.
The course aims to deepen the theme of wooden sculpture in Trentino, with particular attention to the role of itinerant sculptors. Thanks to their activity, the territory became a lively and innovative artistic laboratory, capable of returning today a heritage of extraordinary wealth and variety.
Eight events, between art and history, to discover the secrets of wooden sculpture in Trentino.
