Two established choreographers arrive at the Teatro Sociale di Trento from 14 to 17 March 2024, each with a precise figure, facing in a creation for the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza - Aterballetto – Centro Choreografico Nazionale di Reggio Emilia some themes of extraordinary interest, and not only artistic. The transformations of the body with age, the very concepts of beauty and virtuosity, the self-representation by each of us of our own age.
Ageing is not a problem for the actor, the writer or the visual artist: on the contrary, we often see expressive palettes getting richer. But in dance, which is an artistic and universal language, will we be anchored (and limited) by the same conception of performativity as sport?
More generally, the body that transforms over the years is a central theme in our society, and in the sensitivity of each of us.
Dance allows us to deepen a primarily artistic research. Which the two choreographers intend to push to the very end. Angelin Preljocaj, the choreographer of visual beauty and narrative intensity, is not only looking for former dancers. They are also the people who interest him in this project, capable of telling and creating a new and intense movement.
Rachid Ouramdane relentlessly searches for new expressive nuances and experiments with the boundaries of the human body, all the way to the circus. On thisoccasion, his interest naturally turned to music-hall, an extraordinary space for popular and cultured dance, and also a social dimension.
For Angelin Preljocaj as for Rachid Ouramdane it is important to make this fascinating material, made up of different bodies and physical histories, react to deeply question the canons of beauty and virtuosity.
Interpreters (dancers and non-dancers) "senior": this is the artistic heart of a large project that addresses a theme from the point of view of dance. To the proposal to create beyond certain boundaries, the two choreographers responded with generosity, curiosity and intellectual energy that is their own. Unlike other important experiences, which have wanted to extend the career of groups of dancers, in this project the goal is poetic, and crystallizes truly universal questions. The central one is suggested to us by Preljocaj: what is the age of a body?
The show represents an international co-production, and opens up to the dimension of research, laboratories and meetings dedicated to the subject, thanks to the scientific partner that accompanies us: the Ravasi Garzanti Foundation in Milan.
