The ninth edition of Katharsis opens with a concert by the festival's artistic director, the Trentino pianist and composer Edoardo Bruni, who will perform one of the masterpieces of keyboard literature of all time: the famous Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is an air followed by thirty variations and then again by the air from scratch, thirty-two small jewels that together constitute a monumental work and a masterpiece of musical architecture.
Edoardo Bruni studied piano with Maddalena Giese and Achilles delle Vigne (perfecting with Lazar Berman, Arnaldo Cohen, Andras Schiff) and composition with Armando Franceschini, Cosimo Colazzo, Carlo Galante (perfecting with Alexander Mullenbach, Luis Bacalov, Azio Corghi); he obtained a degree in philosophy from the University of Padua and a doctorate in musicology from the Universities of Trento and Paris 4 - Sorbonne. He is a lecturer in reading the score at the Conservatory of Vicenza.
