The Aeronautical Directorate in the Russian countryside (1941-1943) is the second work dedicated to the history and activity of the Aeronautical Directorate on the most diverse operational theatres of the Second World War. The volume follows the publication of La Regia Aeronautica in the Dodecanese edited by Gen. Isp. Chief Basilio Di Martino.
It is an in-depth study that explains the strategic and tactical reasons for the solutions adopted by the heads of the Regia Aeronautica to maintain the operations of the departments aggregated first to the Italian Expeditionary Corps in Russia and then to the Italian 8th Army on the eastern front, from 1941 to 1943.
The volume analyzes the impact that this mission has had on the personnel and flight crews of reconnaissance and transport aircraft, on the pilots involved in escorting bombers and in the fighter.
The authors also examine the aspects related to the missing and the prisoners, whose fate has remained unknown to date, as well as the logistical problems in a hostile environment.
