The Castello del Buonconsiglio is the largest and most important monument in our region. It was a fortress from the middle of the thirteenth century, then until the Napoleonic age the residence of the prince bishops of Trento, after which it became a barracks and today a museum. It is a complex consisting of three main nuclei, built in different eras.
With its wonderful frescoes and crenellated towers, it is the most important castle in Trentino. For centuries the seat of prince-bishops, today it houses the provincial collections of art and archaeology.
Frescoed halls, loggias overlooking the city and imposing towers enrich the landscape of our city. During the First World War, it gained tragic notoriety following the execution of the Italian irredentist Cesare Battisti in its courtyard. Today, its halls play host to numerous collections of art and archaeology in addition to important temporary exhibits.
There is a packed schedule of educational activities, workshops and events dedicated to schools.
