On the Piné Plateau, not far from Lake Serraia, there is an alpine dam with fishery characteristics that are particularly interesting for modern sports fishermen. A spot for sport fishing in Trentino that fits perfectly with other activities such as bathing, walking, sunbathing and relaxing along the shores during the beautiful days of summer and spring. We are of course talking about Lake of the Squares: an artificial body of water at about 1,000 metres above sea level, originating from the barrier of the Val de Lac River and particularly rich in fish.
Lake Piazze and its features
Although it is an irrigation dam, the Lake of the Squares offers mountain scenery. The eye certainly has its part and the squares should not be disappointed. In fact, the lake retains features that offer breathtaking views from any angle. In addition, its beaches, which are located on the north and south sides, are well equipped and spacious, ideal for both fishing and for a little relaxation with the whole family after a successful fishing trip with rainbow trout, perch or cavedan. The lake features these and other fish such as scardles, pikes and brown trout.
Fishing Regulations
The waters of the lake are under concession to the APDT of Trento. To fish you need to buy a daily permit costing € 15.00, which can also be found without being in possession of a type B license. There is no closure period, except when the surface is covered by ice for more than half, or during trout sowing day (every other Friday, from April to October). The number of catchable salmonids is 5; however, we recommend applying catch&release to safeguard the fish and respect nature. Both natural baits (bigatino, camola, earthworm, etc.) and artificial baits (minnow, teaspoons, silicone) are allowed. Pasture is limited to 500 grams per day. Finally, it is necessary to pay close attention to the two fishing banners: 40 meters near the dam and at the entrance of the impoundment in the waters of the lake. Suggested equipment for the Piazze lake
At the Lake of the Squares it is certainly necessary to take advantage of the continuous and safe presence of trout in the lake. The technique that goes for the most is the lake trout in its two variants, with float and with bombard. Float fishing is ideal the day after sowing, when it is easy to see the trout herd more or less far from the shore. A 5 metre Bolognese, armed with a 3/4 gram trout pen or 'cap', 50/70 centimetre slide and terminal is more than enough. Alternatively, to fish with the bomber, you must opt for telescopic rods or 4,50/4 ,80 meters grafts equipped with mid-bottom bombs equal to 10/20 grams, triple swivel and 100/150 centimeter terminal. You have to launch in the distance, towards the center of the lake, then continue with a sucking movement that can stimulate the salmonids. Lovers of spinning and fishing at a stroke can also have as much fun as their trout-fishing colleagues: the lake offers ample possibilities for sport fishing, and can be tackled with different techniques during a nice fishing holiday in Trentino.
