The exhibition "Barbara De Vivi. Due di due"edited by Gabriele Lorenzoni and Carlo Sala.
The Mart confirms its focus on the languages of the contemporary, widely explored and promoted through the projects carried out at the Civic Gallery of Trento, and presents the first museum exhibition dedicated to the young Venetian artist Barbara De Vivi.
Born in 1992 and trained in the Atelier F of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, De Vivi prefers figurative painting, relating traditional iconographic motifs with personal instances.
In its intimate and powerfully resonant universe, painting and drawing become instruments of psychological investigation and explore the complex dynamics of identity, the body, and affective relationships. At the center is the relationship with her sister, an emblematic figure that manifests itself in the works as a splitting, visual and conceptual echo of the artist herself. In this way, De Vivi deals with a theme, that of the double, deeply rooted in the history of art and psychoanalysis, proposing a new and personal interpretation.
More than 40 works are on display, including many created for the occasion. Among the works on display, there are also precious large unpublished papers.
The guiding image of the project comes from a large series on small format paper, merged into the Drawings cycle from the archive (2024/2025), and depicts two twin sisters embracing. Here, as in other works in the exhibition, the reflection on the theme of the double as a formal tool to project oneself on another subject and create an external point of view on human dynamics, emotional and psychological states is evident.
The exhibition is accompanied by an upcoming catalogue published by Mart, with contributions from curators Gabriele Lorenzoni and Carlo Sala and an essay by art historian Miriam Rejas Del Pino.
