On the evening of Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the main hall of the Antonio Rosmini High School in Trento in Via Malfatti, there will be an evening dedicated to music, the "Festival Contrasti".
the program opens with a tribute to one of the most representative composers of the twentieth century, whose centenary of his birth is celebrated thisyear: György Ligeti's Musica ricerca, a collection of eleven pieces for piano, is proposed. Despite being a youthful work, Musica ricerca already foreshadows a predilection for compositional construction that starts "from nothing" and progressively expands in an organic and systematic way: in this case, we go from the use of only two notes in the first piece, to the addition of a new note in each of the subsequent ones, up to the total of the heights in the last.
About fifteen years later is the composition of Lachenmann's String Trio, one of the last pieces of the German composer's first production; already in the immediately following years, he moved away from post-serial speculation on rhythms and heights, concentrating his compositional research on timbre (understood as authentic sound material).
This research on new sounds and particular timbre constructions, finds in Momi's Unrisen one of the most remarkable examples of recent years: the composer, skillfully combining electronic sounds and "analog" sounds of the instruments, gives life to a fresco in which "man and machine" intertwine to build a rich, colorful, sometimes lyrical sound world, stretched along expressive paths that are always changing and in continuous movement.
Execution schedule:
▪ Gÿorgy Ligeti – Musica Ricerata (1951-53), for piano
▪ Helmut Lachenmann – Streichtrio (1965), for string trio
▪ Marco Momi – Unrisen (2016), for SmartPianoQuintet
The event is part of the "Trento Aperta" event, to make the most of summer in the city!
