On Thursday 16 November 2023 in Trento, Le Gallerie di Piedicastello will host the presentation of Giovanni Caprara's book "L 'Aeronautica Militare e il programma San Marco". The author will dialogue with Basilio Di Martino, Roberto Battiston and Giorgio Postal. The initiative concludes the calendar of events dedicated to the Centenary of the Italian Air Force curated by the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino.
In this latest editorial effort, published at the beginning of 2023 by Rivista Aeronautica, Giovanni Caprara, a professor at the Politecnico di Milano and scientific columnist for Corriere della sera, recounts the extraordinary adventure of Luigi Broglio, a professor at La Sapienza University in Rome and general of the Italian Air Force, considered the "father" of Italian astronautics. Caprara's work, which ispart of the series published on the occasion of the Centenary of the Italian Air Force (1923-2023), tells the first steps of Italian exploration in space. An experience that has seen the Air Force, La Sapienza University, NASA and the aerospace industry protagonists for decades with the San Marco program, a project that led to the launch of the first Italian satellite, San Marco 1, launched autonomously from a country other than the US and the USSR.
In the meeting on Thursday 16 November at Le Gallerie, Giovanni Caprara will speak with Chief Inspector General Basilio Di Martino, president of the Centenary Committee of the Air Force Program Office, Roberto Battiston, professor of experimental physics at the University of Trento, from 2014 to 2018 president of the Italian Space Agency, and Giorgio Postal, President of the Historical Museum of Trentino Foundation. Federica Lavagna of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino will moderate the discussion.
