On Friday, May 16, 2025, at the MUSE - Science Museum of Trento, a majestic jellyfish will be installed as a metaphor for the environmental transformations underway. The 2×4 meter installation, created by contemporary artist Matteo Boato with Sara Metaldi, is made of stainless steel, plexiglass, recycled plastic and is enriched with bright elements. Suspended in the lobby of the museum, it marks the beginning of a new visit.
Why a jellyfish? What is the correlation with the International Year for the Conservation of Glaciers? Some species of jellyfish are extremely adaptable and thrive in increasingly hot and acidified seas. Global warming and the resulting melting of glaciers lead to sea level rise and changes in ocean ecosystems, creating conditions conducive to the proliferation of these organisms. The jellyfish thus becomes a subtle and unexpected sign of the climate crisis: it represents the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and refers to the fragility of our future on a changing planet.
