Their accelerated melting, caused by rising temperatures and pollution, represents one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time, with profound impacts on the ecosystem, biodiversity and local economies.
Today, glaciers cover about 10% of the earth's surface and host a unique biodiversity, which with the melting, risks extinction.
Their disappearance will affect the availability of fresh water, compromise mountain habitats and have direct repercussions on sectors such as tourism, agriculture, pastoralism and the production of hydroelectric energy.
