The winner of the seventh edition of the Trento International Contemporary Engraving Festival will be announced on Friday 17 May 2024 in the afternoon at Spazio Foyer in Trento. The title of this edition is "Lights of the limelight", and it called the participating artists to discuss the theme of light, the scene and the atmospheres of black and white silent cinema. Until 9 June, Spazio Foyer will also host the group exhibition with the 68 works selected by the Technical Jury from among the more than 200 participants in the Call.
The FIIC, International Festival of Contemporary Engraving of Trento organized by Spazio Foyer, continues its activity of rediscovery, enhancement and presentation to the general public of the ancient art of engraving, which in the 21st century finds new life in comparison with other artistic disciplines and through the relationship with artisanal techniques. As usual, the Festival proposes a theme in dialogue with the theatrical world. "Lights of the limelight", this is the title of the seventh edition, aims to broaden reflections on the world of entertainment, also evoking the atmospheres of black and white cinema. The call was enormously successful, attracting over 200 artists of all nationalities - from Europe to Asia to South America, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Romania, Poland, Tunisia, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Greece and many others - each with a personal artistic and creative history, capable of declining the theme with originality and refinement. The artistic reflections proposed by the participants therefore focus on the relationship between light and color, on the contrast between silence and what instead remains insistently in the foreground, under the spotlight, on the relationship between the scene of fiction and the spectacle of reality, while not lacking deep or playful reflections on the key concepts related to the theme of thisedition.
The works were evaluated by a Technical Jury, formed by personalities of certain prestige in the field of visual arts and in particular in the field of original engraving. A job of great delicacy, carried out with skill and attention, making even very strict choices. This work has made it possible to select the 68 works that will be exhibited over the next few weeks at Spazio Foyer. An anthology in which young students join already artistically mature professionals, together telling the world of contemporary graphics. Among these, the same Technical Jury has also reported, at its sole discretion, the eight works deserving of the FIIC Trento 2024 Award.
A Popular Jury, made up of artists, actors and theatre directors, has therefore decreed, among the eight finalist works, the winner of the FIIC 2024 Award, which will be announced at the inauguration of the exhibition, on Friday 17 May at 5.00 pm at Spazio Foyer, in the presence of the Technical Jury.
