In Trento at "Le Gallerie" in the Piedicastello district, the first twentyyears of the Trentino Volunteer Service Center are celebrated with an installation that opens on Friday, May 19, 2023 and tells the story of the importance of volunteering in Trentino.
A photographic installation that invites you to go beyond what you see.
There are volunteers in health care, in sport, in the promotion of culture, in civil protection, in the protection of the environment, in international cooperation, in the inclusion of migrants, in the fight against poverty, in the protection of rights. There are many ways to volunteer, all united by a single drive: taking care of the community. Volunteering is so present in our lives that we sometimes risk taking it for granted.
Promoted by CSV Trentino – Non Profit Network and Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino, the installation reflects on the vital role that voluntary solidarity has, and has had, for the territory.
The path is developed on two levels of narration and fruition. The public is first of all invited to think by subtraction, that is, to ask themselves: what would happen if there were no volunteers? The language of photography, through the reconstruction of micro-worlds, returns eight scenes of daily life suspended between seriousness and irony. Appearing normal, they actually turn out to be small "theaters of the absurd", made so precisely by the absence of those who volunteer.
The artistic provocation is accompanied by the historical-sociological reading: data, testimonies from yesterday and today, photos and archival materials – available in the QR codes placed along the route – outline a first, partial, geography of the Trentino volunteering system and its motivations.
The last station shows those who volunteer in the centre of the scene and invites everyone to get involved. Because we can't be WITHOUT you, dear volunteer!
