As part of the initiatives for the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino, in collaboration with ANPI del Trentino, proposes an in-depth study dedicated to the participation of Trentino men and women in the 1943-1945 Liberation War. The meeting, which will take place on Thursday 24 April at 4.30 pm at the Officina dell 'Autonomia in Via Tommaso Gar 29 in Trento, will include speeches by Giuseppe Ferrandi, director of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino, Mario Cossali, ANPI president of Trentino, Claudio Silingardi, vice-president of the Historical Institute of Modena, Lorenzo Gardumi and Michele Toss of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino. The Foundation also offers free guided tours of the World War II exhibition at the Galleries between 25 and 27 April and a special programme in the History Lab Live space on digital terrestrial channel 12 (Telepace Trento).

The reflection proposed in the meeting "WOMEN and MEN OF THE RESISTANCE. Trentino's participation in the War of Liberation, 1943-1945" will be inspired by the presentation of two digital initiatives that the Foundation is carrying out.

On the one hand, the "Census of the Trentino soldiers" who participated in the Second World War, carried out starting from the study of the registration sheets deposited at the State Archive of Trento; the database currently has about 35,000 personal files - available online - containing the biographical data of the soldiers, information on the departments in which they fought, the battle fronts and their war experience (https://soldatitrentini.museostorico.it/).

On the other hand, the database "Women and men of the Resistance" built taking into account the varied characters of the Resistance and the War of Liberation: on the basis of different data and sources, the current investigation begins to fill the spaces of an articulated and complex puzzle that includes the participation of Trentino in the fighting of September 8, 1943, inside and outside the Peninsula, the adherence to the partisan war abroad or at home, the continuation of the war in the ranks of the Army of the Southern Kingdom or behind the barbed wire of the internment camps. In short, the aim is to help tell the story of the Trentino people in the Resistance to Nazifascism.

The meeting is part of the initiatives for 25 April, the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. All events are listed on the website of the Municipality (https://www.comune.trento.it/Citta/Vivi-la-citta/Eventi-in-citta/25-aprile-2025) and the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino (https://museostorico.it/event/25-aprile-80-anniversario-della-liberazione)

The Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino also offers free guided tours of the exhibition at the Galleries "The Second World War: the Trentino experience" that tells the Trentino experience during the conflict: the battlefronts, the difficult choices after the armistice of 1943, the war at home. The visits will take place on Friday 25 April at 3 pm, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April, at 3 pm and 4.30 pm at the Gallerie, Piazza di Piedicastello. Reservations are not required.

In addition, in the History Lab Live space curated by the Foundation on channel 12 (Telepace Trento), on Friday 25 April from 9.15 pm to midnight and Saturday 26 April from 2 pm to 4 pm, educational programmes, documentaries, in-depth studies dedicated to the end of the Second World War and the Resistance will be broadcast.
