Just south of Trento, on the right bank of the Adige River, the village of Aldeno lies amid a rural landscape of vineyards and orchards on the eastern slopes of Monte Bondone, easily recognizable by the tall bell tower of the Church of San Modesto.
In the historic core of the village stands the old Civic Tower, the only remaining element of the ancient Church of San Zeno (16th–17th century), demolished in the 18th century.
The fertile soil favors the production of excellent fruit, vegetables, and fine wines, celebrated during the historic “Mostra dei Merlot d’Italia” and the summer event “Calici di Stelle”, held on the night of San Lorenzo.
Wood and iron craftsmanship also flourished here, once supported by workshops and mills along the Arione stream, which today flows through the village alongside a long tree-lined avenue and a park with centuries-old trees, a sports center, and two small lakes for sport fishing.
Aldeno lay along the ancient Via Claudia Augusta, and from the Middle Ages for over 900 years the village — like nearby Cimone — belonged to the “Comun Comunale”, an old institution uniting the municipalities on the right bank of the Adige in the management of the Vallagarina territory.
This ancient bond is still remembered today through a rotating celebration hosted each year by one of the seven member communities.
