The Orrido di Ponte Alto is a spectacular natural canyon located a few kilometres from the centre of Trento, along the Fersina stream. It is a deep gorge carved by water into the rock over thousands of years, characterized by steep walls and suggestive waterfalls.

The particularity of the Orrido is not only naturalistic, but also historical and engineering: already in the sixteenth century, impressive hydraulic works were built to control the waters, including a large artificial waterfall about 40 meters high. These interventions, intended to protect the city from floods, represent an important example of Renaissance hydraulic engineering.

Today the Orrido can be visited with guided tours that allow you to walk along walkways and stairs inside the gorge, offering an immersive experience between nature, history and industrial archaeology.

It is an ideal destination for those who want to discover a surprising place, where the strength of nature and human ingenuity meet in a context of great charm.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EXPERIENCE | GUIDED TOURS IN ITALIAN | ACCESS ALLOWED ONLY WITH THE GUIDE.

  • The visit lasts 45 minutes and is guided by an experienced operator who will be able to tell the story of the Horrible in an engaging way even to children.
  • The route is very simple, unfortunately not accessible by wheelchair due to steps and small spaces. Consider the presence of exposed balconies and narrow passages that can create some discomfort for those suffering from dizziness or claustrophobia.
  • It is largely covered so the visit is also made in case of rain (no special clothing is needed: sneakers and k-ways).
  • The site has no toilets and limited space to wait for your shift.
  • There are no access bans for dogs, which must still be kept on a leash, considering the narrow spaces and the numerous grilles that look into the void.
