This valuable seventeenth-century palace is also known as the "Devil's Palace" because of an ancient and sinister legend, cited by the German writer and writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe
There is a legend about this palace, even mentioned by Johann Wolfgang Goethe in 1786. According to some, the building was built in one night by the Devil himself, to whom the banker Georg Fugger had sold his soul in order to marry the noblewoman from Trentino, Elena Madruzzo, with whom he was hopelessly in love. Built in 1602 at the behest of the same descendant of the powerful family of bankers of Augusta, the palace impresses visitors with its solemn classic style designed by the Brescia architect Pietro Maria Bagnadore. Very interesting is the chapel dedicated to the Anaunian Martyrs and erected in 1607, which features some pictorial decorations by Bagnadore himself in addition to the valuable stucco by the Como artist Davide Reti.
