Shrine symbolising Marian veneration. The Montagnaga complex celebrates the narration of the five apparitions mentioned by the popular and religious tradition of the place.
Known as the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Piné, this complex located in Montagnaga, a fraction of the municipality of Baselga di Piné, includes several buildings and sacred places. Here, according to tradition, the Virgin appeared five times between 1729 and 1730 to a shepherd girl named Domenica Targa. The actual sanctuary, a late Baroque building, houses the altarpiece of S. Anna, by Francesco Unterpergher di Cavalese, and the canvas depicting the Madonna by Caravaggio, created in the year of the first appearance by the Trentino painter Elena Zambaiti and numerous ex voto paintings of historical and artistic interest, witnesses of the deep local devotion. To be seen, a short distance from the Sanctuary, is the suggestive Conca della Comparsa with the bronze depiction of the first apparition and the Monument to the Redeemer, a 20th-century work in neo-Renaissance style, where the Holy Staircase and the wooden Crucifixion group are venerated.
Remember that during your visit to the Sanctuary it is essential to behave appropriately and respectfully of the sacredness of the place.
