The FondazioThe Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino continues its activity of promoting photography as a source for remembering and studying local history. In the case of the exhibition "From Trento to the world: visual chronicles of Giorgio Salomon" we want to show a reasoned selection of the visual chronicles made by Giorgio Salomon first in Trento and in Trentino - as editorial photographer of the newspaper "Alto Adige" - then in different parts of the world, with the international reports made as a RAI cinematographer.
The route, housed in the rooms of Palazzo Roccabruna in Trento, traces the development of these two seasons. The first period is characterized by the black and white of the time, with images that retrace the salient facts of the news: the political-administrative drive towards a new economic and social development, the first protests in the square, the attacks in the name of the South Tyrolean cause, the car accidents and the collective separating events of the Vajont tragedy and the 1966 flood.
A fervent season told in local and national newspapers by Italian photojournalism, in which Salomon's work is perfectly integrated, always at the forefront to document the reality of the facts, to support an information system without veils and without intermediaries. A journey through customs, lifestyles, postures and conditions that already then were a harbinger of imminent transformations.
The mountaineering expeditions, war photography, street photography, portraits, friends, the intense glances of young people and children, highlight the importance of the operator's point of view, which Salomon has always been able to keep authentic, always alive, fueled by an infinite curiosity towards people and with the strength of a vision that is based on the awareness of the civil function of photography.
