The Civic Tower is Trento's most iconic landmark and climbing to the top is a breathtaking experience. From its height of 45 meters, the tower offers a unique perspective on the city, transforming every glimpse into a small spectacle to admire.
Overlooking the splendid Piazza Duomo, the Torre Civica dominates the scene together with the majestic Cathedral of San Vigilio and the refined Fountain of Neptune, creating a painting that combines history, art and magic. Every step towards the top reveals details and views that tell the heart of Trento, making the visit an unforgettable experience.
Built around the middle of the 12th century on the remains of the ancient Porta Veronensis (1st century AD), the tower, built in close connection with the bishop's residence, was also used for administrative purposes and, until the end of the 19th century, as a male and female prison. A fundamental reference point for all citizens, the tower regulated civil life, marking urban and secular time with its clock; it called citizens to gather or warned them in case of danger with its two bells, "della renga" and "della rason". The recent restoration allows you to rediscover it by visiting eight of the twelve levels that make it up.
The opening of the Tower and the conduct of guided tours are made possible thanks to the agreement signed between the Municipality of Trento, owner of the building, and the Tridentine Diocesan Museum.
It can only be visited on certain days and times, through guided tours that reveal secrets and curiosities.
