The Viote del Monte Bondone basin today offers a unique and protected natural environment, frequented in every season. A role that, in different forms, has accompanied the history of this territory for thousands of years: about 13,000 years ago, during the beautiful seasons of the last ice age, a group of hunter-gatherers frequented the Viote basin, leaving the traces of their camp. It is from this story that the ninth edition of Ice Age Europe Day is inspired, scheduled for Sunday, September 27 at the Viote Alpine Botanical Garden, on Monte Bondone. The event, linked to the European network Ice Age Europe, thisyear expands its programming by adding to the activities for families, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., a moment dedicated to the enhancement of the museum's studies on Monte Bondone which, only in the two-year period 2022-2024, led to the identification of 29 archaeological areas, returning stone tools, ceramics and other finds. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Monte Bondone Reserve Network.
Activities for families
- The day will unfold through a journey in stages that will accompany the public to discover the Botanical Garden and the Paleolithic ancestors. Five stages, five themes and five activities to learn, through play and experimentation, about prehistoric daily life and the territory of the Viote del Monte Bondone, where the traces of their camps were identified.
- The experience will be made even more concrete by the presence of the archaeologist Alessandro Potì, who will propose activities dedicated to the chipping of flint, the sleeving of lithic finds, the extraction and weaving of plant fibres, the piling with birch tar and the processing of wood.
- Together with the group of reenactors and reenactors People of the River, with furs and ancient tattoos, these activities will allow you to recreate some moments of daily life in the Paleolithic.
