"If they tell you that the world is wrong and you can't do anything to fix it, you have two options: resign yourself to living a life that is not your own, with the doubt of wasting precious time, or roll up your sleeves and try to improve things."
This is the deepest sense of the philosophy of Nicolo Govoni, a young writer and human rights activist (born 1993), as well as president and co-founder of the non-profit organization Still I Rise, who on May 7 will be at the Teatro Sociale in Trento with his show entitled L 'uomo che costruaba il futuro, an intense and extraordinary journey that speaks of courage, solidarity and hope, directed by Gioia Battista. A Corvino Produzioni production.
The man who built the future is a show that tells an extraordinary story, that of Nicolò Govoni, a teenager classified as "difficult" who at the age of twenty leaves everything and decides to dedicate himself to his dream: to build a better future for girls and boys around the world.
Schools, education, independence and freedom. Brick by brick, Nicolò first went through a long period of volunteering in a refugee camp and then decided, together with Giulia Cicoli and Sarah Ruzek, to found Still I Rise, a humanitarian organization that opened schools for vulnerable children in Greece, Yemen, Syria, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Colombia.
This is just the beginning of an incredible story that has changed many lives through an innovative "method" of study, in which the center of everything is the person, awareness, knowledge, beauty and joy. Still I Rise is in fact the first non-profit in the world to offer the International Baccalaureate to refugees free of charge. A brilliant and rapidly ascending path, which in 2020 led Nicolò himself to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
With The man who built the future, Nicolò Govoni brings to the stage the story of a journey still in progress, a story made up of people, many challenges and obstacles, with the aim of achieving the goals imagined. A journey that all of us should take to start changing a piece of the world.
