The monologue recalls the retreat of Russia, one of the most dramatic episodes of the Second World War, which saw the participation and fall of many Trentino Alps.
Arriving on Russian territory as invaders along with the other Italian troops of the ARMIR (a total of 240,000 soldiers), the Alpini undertook a retreat on foot for about 1,300 kilometers in the snow-capped steppe at temperatures of 40 degrees below zero.
The retreat had its culminating episode in the clash at Nikolajewka on 26 January 1943.
The monologue, taken from the immense memorialism of the survivors, retraces the exemplary story of an Alpine who first participates in it convinced of fighting the atheism of the Soviets in the name of Christian civilization and who then gradually rejects fascist ideals and repudiates war.
The recitation is alternated by music and songs performed by Luciano Maino (accordion), Michele Tovazzi (double bass) and Patrick Coser (guitar).
The monologue was performed in Lona, Grumes, Mezzano, Sopramonte, Egna, Cognola, Roverè della Luna, Volano, Mattarello, Verla, Lavis and Albiano.
