The Gianni Caproni Aeronautics Museum in Trento invites the public to an event dedicated to the rebirth of its most fragile treasures. On Wednesday, April 15, at 6:00 p.m., the meeting entitled "Return to Beauty! Textile restorations from the Caproni collection ", a journey behind the scenes of museum conservation led by restorer Katia Brida and introduced by Federica Lavagna of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino.
A museum is not just a container of objects, but a living organism where enhancement goes hand in hand with conservation. In recent years, the Caproni Museum has undertaken a careful recovery of some of the most iconic and historically relevant artifacts in its collection, restoring them to their former glory before returning them to the eyes of visitors. These include the flag of St. George and the Dragon (1916-1917), a symbol of protection and value linked to the years of the Great War, the Japanese flag of the Rome-Tokyo raid (1920), a precious testimony of the epic flight that united Italy and the East, the waistcoat by Tina Strumia (1923-1924), a masterpiece of Futurism created by Fortunato Depero, a sublime example of the meeting between the aesthetics of flight and avant-garde art.
The meeting with Katia Brida, an expert in the restoration of fabrics, tapestries and ancient carpets, will allow us to deepen the techniques used to preserve such delicate materials and the importance of these operations for the collective memory.
