Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the HarpoLab, located in Piazza Garzetti, in the heart of the historic center of Trento, an event will be held dedicated to the history of a symbolic building, built to offer support to workers and people in difficulty.
An opportunity to discover the origins and meaning of this place, conceived as a concrete response to the needs of the lower classes, and to reflect on its social role in the past and present.
On the occasion of the opening to the public, Elena Tonezzer, head of the research sector dedicated to the history of Trento, curated an exhibition dedicated to the origin of the building, a new space that will deal with the culture and practice of cinema, education on image, experimentation, encounter and comparison.
The exhibition, located in the exhibition hall, tells the story of the kitchens and popular bathrooms, which the Municipality of Trento wanted to build in 1906 in what was then the Garzetti Garden. A municipal building, designed to help workers passing through the city, and where the poor could find a cheap hot meal and the possibility of washing.
In the exhibition you can see reproduced part of the documents preserved in the historical archive of the Municipality of Trento and the photographs that documented its activity, published in 1906 in the illustrated periodical directed by Cesare Battisti, Vita Trentina.
