The METS – Trentino Ethnographic Museum San Michele is pleased to present "Tools: from work to sports dreams", an immersive and multimedia multi-event project that will animate its halls from December 5, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
Typical objects of peasant and alpine winter life, such as sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, with the creation of a renewed perception of the alpine space, essentially linked to the new "needs" of a "bourgeois universe", are transformed from working tools to leisure objects, beginning to characterise new social groups. At the same time, from the end of the nineteenth century, these same objects, abandoning their primitive work function and perfecting themselves, became instrumental to the sporting gesture. The exhibition will offer the public an unprecedented selection of objects and enhance a rich film and photographic heritage, as an essential element for understanding the alpine culture of our territory.
