Cimone is a small village on the right bank of the Adige River, just above Aldeno, along the road leading to Garniga Terme. It is a scattered municipality made up of 14 hamlets, which naturally evolved from ancient farmsteads on the slopes of Monte Bondone. The main hamlet is Covelo, dominated by the bell tower of the Church of San Rocco, and home to the municipal offices.
The rural and woodland culture of the area blends harmoniously with small, high-quality farms and a simple yet genuine agritourism offering, as well as with the ancient and renowned wood craftsmanship tradition.
A cool summer climate and mild winters, together with terraced fields, dry-stone walls, and the proximity of the forest, make this territory ideal for wine production, particularly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes — both excellent bases for Trentodoc, the classic-method sparkling wine from Trentino’s mountains.
Historically, the community of Cimone was closely linked to the Vallagarina and, together with Aldeno, was part of the ancient administrative institution known as the Comun Comunale Lagarino (from 1110 to 1818). This bond is still remembered today through a yearly event hosted in turn by the member municipalities.
Among local traditions is the “Barcarola”, a celebration held every 25 years to commemorate the inhabitants of Cimone who, in the early 20th century, were forced to emigrate to America in search of work.
