Chiara Cultural Services Centre continues hosting in Trento from 12 to 15 March "Like the birds" by Wajdi Mouawad, a show that won the Ubu 2024 Award as the best new foreign text. A project by Il Mulino di Hamleto.
Dramatic masterpiece by the French-Lebanese Wajdi Mouawad, translated into Italian by Monica Capuani for the Italian premiere directed by Marco Lorenzi, "Like Birds" is a powerful and heartbreaking work that tells the love story between Eitan, a young man of Israeli origin, and Wahida, a girl of Arab origin, in a historical reality made of conflicts, pain, hatreds, attacks. A labyrinth of stories, forgotten legacies, fratricidal struggles that gives life to an emotional investigation of one's cultural identity and origins. A theatrical text in which time and space are surpassed, covering family stories of different generations set in different geographical places.
What do we know about the secrets of our past, the history of our families? How many dark moments in history and what violence are we heirs to without knowing it? If we are born in the bed of our enemy, how can we prevent the blood flowing in our veins from becoming an anti-personnel mine?
"Like the birds" is a touching and profound reflection on love, encounter and identity.
